835a. Postero-median points of tergites obviously smaller than those in front and behind, resulting in a transversely striped appearance (070a.jpg). Armament of tergite VIII at least considerably reduced in front of the posterior transverse point band; in the majority of specimens there is a transverse point-free band across the 3rd quarter of the tergite. Pseudosmittia trilobata

835b. Points of tergites II-VII of similar size (071b.jpg). Armament of tergite VIII not evanescent before the posterior transverse point band. Conjunctival point bands present dorsally on II/III-VI/VII, ventrally on IV/V-VII/VIII (female) or VIII/IX (male).
