Eukiefferiella devonica

Author: (Edwards, 1929)

Exuviae 2.5-3.2mm long (m=2.8mm, n=6).
Cephalothorax: Thoracic horn 93-115µm long; ThR (base) 1.2-1.5 (n=5). Length horn base 0.41-0.51x length horn (n=5). Median antepronotal setae 1,2: 118-200; 33-125µm long (n=5); precorneal setae 1-3: 135-190; 80-145; 35-65µm long (n=6); dorsocentral setae 1-4: 35-55; 25-30; 50-63; 8-20µm long (n=4). Pearl row absent.
Abdomen: Hook rows on tergites continuous; hooks III 15-26, IV 17-26, V 16-24 (n=10). Posterior teeth of tergites III-V long, 2-3x or more the length of the bases of the hooks of the hook rows, dense; posterior teeth III 20-27µm; IV 23-25µm long (n=5). Segment VIII with one long, thick lateral seta and another that is finer and shorter. Sternite VII at the posterior edge usually with a transverse row of hooks.
Anal segment: Anal lobe ratio 1.1-1.5 (n=5). Anal lobes without fringe. Length of anal macrosetae 0.68-1.0x length of the anal lobe (n=4). Inner macroseta of anal lobes weaker than the other two.
(Linked adult male: Langton and Pinder, 2003a)

Note: In some specimens the transverse row of hooks on sternite VII is reduced to points, evanescent, or even absent; such specimens may not be distinguishable from Eukiefferiella ilkleyensis that have lost the thoracic horn, but present evidence suggests that ilkleyensis only very rarely loses its thoracic horns and has the median antepronotal setae more similar in length.
