Endochironomus albipennis

Diagnosis
Exuviae 7.1-9.0mm long (m=8.1mm, n=17).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles rounded with frontal seta mounted on a small tubercle. Frontal setae 40, 70µm long (n=2). Thoracic horn much branched. Thorax with a single row of large tubercles along suture (112b.jpg).
Abdomen: Length hook row II 0.34-0.43x width tergite II (n=7). Tergite II with median and/or anterior transverse point patches well-developed. Conjunctives IV/V, V/VI and VI/VII armed with strong teeth. Sternite II without transverse spine bands. Vortex absent. Comb of segment VIII with 5-10 marginal and 0-5 dorsal teeth (n=19). Lateral taeniae of segments V-VIII: 0,0,1(0),5(4).
Anal segment: Fringe composed of 172-260/17-23 similar long taeniae (n=8). At the posterior end of the anal lobes is a tuft of short broad dark taeniae differing markedly from those of the rest of the fringe (114d.jpg).

Distribution
Palaearctic species: widespread in Europe, eastern Mediterranean.
