Diagnosis
Exuviae 3.9-4.4 (n=6).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles short, broad conical. Frontal setae 55-65µm long (n=3). Antennal sheath base with a large conical projection. Thoracic horn elongate, 375-550µm long (n=5), without setae (138h.jpg); ThR 7.6-9.2 (n=4). Posterior thoracic mound moderately swollen. Wing sheaths rounded apically, pearl row absent.
Note: Scottish specimens of miriforceps may have the thoracic horn less than 350µm long, but they are not distorted as they are in Tanytarsus pe17.
Abdomen: Length hook row II 0.39x width tergite (n=1); hooks 80-103 (n=3). Tergites III-VI with the armament arranged in longitudinal bands. Armament tergite IV strong, 100-150µm long (n=5). ArR III-VI 0.97-1.24 : 1.0 : 0.84-1.10 : 0.64-0.78 (n=6). Longest spine III 20-53µm long; IV (15) 25µm long (n=6). Postero-lateral comb of segment VIII 30-55µm wide; with 6-10 marginal teeth (n=6). Segments VII and VIII without taeniae, the lateral setae less than 100µm long.
Anal segment: Anal lobe ratio 1.5 (n=1). Fringe of anal lobe with 15-22 taeniae (n=6) (14-24 Laville, 1971), forming a complete series.
