Parachironomus monochromus

Diagnosis
Exuviae 4.4-5.2mm long (n=5).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles 85µm long; 2.0x higher than broad (n=1) (111g.jpg). Thoracic horn much branched. Thoracic granulation very fine, without obviously larger granules by suture. Posterior thoracic mound not strongly swollen anteriorly and without a long conical posterior projection.
Abdomen: Tergite armament of Parachironomus-pattern. Length hook row II 0.25, 0.27x width tergite (n=2). Tergite II without armament. Sternite I without toothed humps. Sternite II with the posterior transverse spine band well-developed, but with the anterior band represented at most by points (112e.jpg). Vortex present. Comb of segment VIII of 2-4 colourless spines. Lateral taeniae of segments V-VIII: 4,4,4,5.
Anal segment: Anal fringe of 38-46 taeniae (n=8).

Holarctic species: widespread in Europe (not Mediterranean).
