569a. Dorsal teeth brown, broad triangular, set on squat golden mounds (031c.jpg). Lateral setae often very variable in position on the same exuviae, e.g. setae 1 and 2 close together on anterior segments, but setae 1-3 more or less equidistant on posterior segments. Posterior tooth row of tergite I usually represented or indicated. Segment VIII longer, about 3/4ths the length of the anal lobes.

Diamesa bertrami

569b. Dorsal teeth golden, narrow, merging into the basal mounds. Lateral setae 1 and 2 approximate, well-separated from 3. Posterior tooth row of tergite I absent. Segment VIII shorter, a little over half the length of the anal lobes.
