562a. Dorsal points of tergite IX spreading across anal lobes. Segments VII and VIII of the same shape: narrow rectangular (032a.jpg). Brownish exuviae with broad brown anterior transverse band continuing down the lateral adhesion marks; the brown teeth (50µm long, not set on distinct mounds) joined by a golden yellow band; anterior and posterior adhesion marks of the tergites also golden; lateral margins of segments golden-brown.

Diamesa caucasica

562b. Dorsal points of tergite IX not spreading onto anal lobes. Segment VIII narrow rectangular; segment VII broad rectangular, longer relative to its width (032c.jpg). Pale buff exuviae, almost colourless, with the colour pattern faintly picked out as in caucasica except for the strongly contrasting transverse golden band along the bases of the tooth rows, the brown teeth (25µm long) set on distinct golden mounds.
