407a. Thoracic horn short (less than 200µm long), without setulae, but with an occasional sharp point at or near apex. Abdominal segments with lateral setae but no taeniae (occasionally 1 or 2 on segment VIII are a little flattened). (Anal lobes with a long dorsal seta.)

Rheotanytarsus nigricauda

407b. Thoracic horn longer, with setae apically. Posterior abdominal segments with lateral taeniae, though these may be narrow.
