188a. Sternite III with a much reduced lateral longitudinal shagreen band; sternite IV without such bands. (IF sternite II continuous posteriorly between lateral longitudinal bands and median patch: Chironomus pseudothummi with unusually short pleural spinules on IV.)

(Exuviae usually colourless with golden, or more rarely pale brownish, markings; small examples of Chironomus nudiventris will run here; they may be recognized by their distinctive colour: see Page 159: Chironomini 56 Chironomus)
