573a. Abdominal tergites II-VIII with at least a median patch of dense small points (031h.jpg). Colour pale golden or tan with anterior edge of tergites and lateral adhesion marks brown; inner half of paratergites nearly colourless. Posterior teeth of abdominal tergites 40µm long, brown, set on mounds which may be tinged with yellow.

Diamesa aberrata

573b. Abdominal tergites very nearly devoid of armament other than the posterior tooth rows (031f.jpg). In colour, tan with anterior margin of tergites and lateral adhesion marks brown; paratergites of the same ground colour. Posterior teeth of abdominal tergites 20µm golden, set on mounds a little paler in colour. (There is a tendency in this species for the dorsal teeth to arise in pairs from the basal mounds.)
