Paratanytarsus dissimilis

Author: (Johannsen, 1905)

Diagnosis
Exuviae 3.4-4.8mm long (m=4.2mm, n=10).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles conical, projecting. Thoracic horn 260-490µm long (n=7); ThR 14-29 (n=5). Thoracic horn seta 40-50µm long (n=3) (131g.jpg). Posterior thoracic mound smoothly rounded. Dorsocentral setae simple (rarely one or two forked or branched), the longer of the anterior dorsocentral setae exceeding 150µm in length.
Abdomen: Tergite III with a patch of spines on each side in the posterior half; IV with lateral longitudinal spine bands extending to seta D3; the anterior point patch usually bears spines posteriorly which often spread laterally to join the longitudinal bands; point patches of V paired (131h.jpg). Comb of segment VIII 30-43µm wide (n=9); with 4-10 marginal teeth (m=6.8, n=12). Lateral taeniae of segments IV-VIII: 2(1),3,4(3),4,5.
Anal segment: Fringe of anal lobe with 30-44 taeniae (m=38, n=13).
Note: P. dissimilis and Paratanytarsus inopertus may be no more than the extremes of a variable species.
