Diagnosis
Exuviae 4.1-5.1mm long (m=4.6mm, n=22).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles 25-40µm long (m=32µm, n=7). Frontal setae 40-55µm long (m=45µm, n=7). Thoracic horn 3.7mm long (n=1), one branch of the thoracic horn is very long and stiff, extending forwards for over half the exuvial length and not itself branched for its proximal half, the other initial branches small and clustered around its base. Posterior thoracic mound swollen conspicuously into an anterior and posterior bulge.
Abdomen: Hook row either continuous with 21-29 hooks (n=17), or medially broken with 5/6-7/9 hooks (n=4). Dorsal toothed mounds continuous across tergites III-VI, paired on tergite II. Toothed mounds present on sternites II(III)-IV(V) (093f.jpg). Comb of segment VIII 100-170µm long (m=166µm, n=16), thorn-like, set close behind the fourth lateral taenia. Lateral taeniae of segments V-VIII: 4,4,4,4.
Anal segment: Fringe of anal lobes of similar long taeniae, each lobe with 18-40 taeniae (m=25.8, n=17).

Note: A series in ZSM leg. F. Reiss indicates that the pupa of anomalus (Kieffer) as described by Lenz, 1959a is only an extreme form of this species.
