Diagnosis (after Saether, 1990a)
Pupal exuviae very similar to Limnophyes edwardsi; differs in the distances between the dorsocentral setae, the fourth lateral seta on segment VIII absent or strongly reduced.
Exuviae 2.2-3.3mm long.
Cephalothorax: Frontal setae on frontal apotome. Ocular field with 1 vertical and 1-2 postorbitals. Thoracic horn absent. 2 Median and 1 lateral, fine antepronotals. Precorneal tubercle present, 3 fine and short precorneals. 4 Dorsocentrals, setal marks of setae 2 and 3 separated by 2-13µm, distance between setae 3 and 4 about 15µm. Thorax and wing sheaths smooth.
Abdomen: Tergite I without shagreen; II-VIII with posterior transverse rows of translucent or slightly darkened elongate spines. Sternites I and IX without shagreen; II-III usually with a few, weak median points. Pedes spurii A and B absent. Segment VIII with 4 or 5 lateral setae; third seta weak, 38-94µm long; fourth seta weak, about 8µm long.
Anal segment: Anal lobe somewhat rectangular, 150-245µm long. Three anal macrosetae, apically curved, 130-220µm long, 0.75-0.90x as long as anal lobe. Genital sac of male with apico-lateral elongation, but no tubercle.
