Cricotopus festivellus

Author: (Kieffer, 1906)

Diagnosis (in part after Hirvenoja, 1973a - in italics)
Exuviae 3.1-4.7mm long (m=4.0mm, n=10).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles absent; frontal setae on praefrons, 55µm long (n=1). Antennal sheaths with a weak granular mound. Thoracic horn usually toothed apically, but smooth when very small. Thoracic horn 15-190µm long (m=89µm, n=11); ThR 1.0-7.6 (m=4.5, n=11) (090g.jpg).
Abdomen: Length hook row II 0.35-0.45 of width tergite II (n=6); hooks 39-65 (n=7). Armament of tergite II not resembling that on III, usually extensive; always at least represented by a transverse band of small points in front of hook row. Armament of tergites III-V extending into the antero-lateral corners past the anterior adhesion marks; tergites III-VI typically with the median and posterior transverse bands widely separated but broadly joined on each side leaving a median circular or oval bare patch (090j.jpg), but very variable, some specimens having these bands more or less completely fused and others with the bands separate. Point patches absent on tergites VII and VIII. Pedes spurii B well-developed on segment II, very weakly indicated on III. Dorsal setae I-VIII: 4,4,4,5,5,5,5,2; Lateral setae I-VIII; 1,3,3,3,3,3,3,4; Ventral setae I-VIII: 1,4,4,4,4,4,4,0. Five lateral setae on segment VIII, lateral seta 4 not stronger than the other lateral setae on VIII.
Anal segment: Anal lobe ratio 1.9-2.1 (n=4). Anal lobes without fringe. Anal macrosetae more or less equally strong; length 0.58-0.78x length of the anal lobe (n=7).
