Author: Kieffer, 1911
Diagnosis
Exuviae 3.0-3.5mm long (n=8).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles very short, shallow conical. Frontal setae 75-100µm long (n=5). Antennal sheath bases without a swelling. Thoracic horn minutely spinulate over its apical half, 500-625µm long; ThR 12.0-19.4 (n=7) (143i.jpg). Posterior thoracic mound weak. Wing sheaths rounded apically, pearl row absent.
Abdomen: Length hook row II 0.25, 0.29x width tergite (n=2); hooks 52-75 (n=3). Tergite II with extensive shagreen of small points extending from the anterior margin of the paired anterior point patches to close to the hook row (143j.jpg). Tergite III with paired anterior patches of points only. Tergites IV and V with the armament arranged in longitudinal bands. Armament tergite IV strong, 50-85µm long (n=7). ArR II-VI 0.37-0.69 : 0.81-1.25 : 1.0 : 0.77-1.1 : 0.43-0.8 (n=7). Postero-lateral comb of segment VIII 17-25µm wide; with 3-6 marginal teeth (n=6). Lateral taeniae of segments V-VIII: 2,2,2-4,5.
Anal segment: Fringe of anal lobe with 22-29 taeniae (n=9), forming a complete series. Anal lobe ratio 1.38-1.51 (n=4).
(Linked adult male: Langton and Pinder, 2003a)
Note: Similar to Tanytarsus nemorosus but setulae on thoracic horn shorter, about 5µm long, and more dense; dorsocentral setae shorter, longest less than 50µm long (over 130µm long in nemorosus); 5 lateral taeniae on segments VIII.
