Diagnosis
Exuviae 6.1-8.5mm long (m=7.2, n=8).
Cephalothorax: Cephalic tubercles 12-16µm long (n=3). Frontal setae 60-70µm long (n=4). Thoracic horn much branched. Thorax with extensive small granulation.
Abdomen: Hooks of hook row II 90-116 (m=105.8, n=8). Epaulettes foot-print shaped, with short, usually broad anterior limb; restricted to tergites III-VI (094k.jpg); EpR III-VI 1.0 : 1.16-2.1 : 1.44-2.56 : 1.62-3.33 (m=1.0 : 1.48 : 1.91 : 2.22, n=8); epaulettes III-VI with 4-13, 5-19, 7-16, 8-16 marginal points. Paratergites IV armed with a longitudinal band of points, the largest of which are nearly the size of those nearest them on the tergite. Comb of segment VIII with 1-7 short teeth. Lateral taeniae of segments V-VIII: 4,4,4,4.
Anal segment: Fringe of anal lobe with 60-91 taeniae (m=69.3, n=8).

Widespread in west Europe (not Fennoscandia).

Ecological notes
Shallow stagnant water: larvae mine the leaves of Potamogeton natans and other submerged aquatic plants.
