Diagnosis
Exuviae 5.4-6.8mm long (m=6.1mm, n=32).
Cephalothorax: Thoracic horn 478-620µm long (m=556µm, n=25); ThR 1.2-2.3 (m=1.9, n=23). Thoracic horn swollen, rounded apically, with a small offset apical plastron plate (017g.jpg). Thorax comb with 9-16 teeth. Thorax finely transversely wrinkled from suture.
Abdomen: Armament of abdominal tergites extensively of group or scale shagreen. Colouration of tergites without a longitudinal dark band at the lateral edge of the tergite (017k.jpg). (In heavily infuscated specimens there may be very faint indications of such lateral bands.) Lateral taeniae of segment VII 4, VIII 5(4,6); anterior lateral taenia of segment VII at 0.22-0.48 of length segment VII (m=0.37, n=35).
Anal segment: Anal lobes less than 700µm long, more or less parallel-sided to the anterior lateral taenia, thereafter narrowed to the tip (017l.jpg). Anal lobe ratio 2.3-2.9 (m=2.6, n=35).

Holarctic species: Widespread in Europe.
